The Foundation will achieve its mission by hosting fundraising efforts primarily to offer monetary support of associations and individuals. The Foundation exists to grow the pool of hockey talent and level of competition in the state of Alaska so more young hockey players can achieve their highest potential.

Where is our money going?

The Scotty Gomez Foundation is committed to creating and enhancing hockey
opportunities for Alaska's youth.

The Foundation's Board of Directors have agreed that a portion of the money
raised for the first few years will be saved for the purpose of
developing a fund that will grow and generate a sizeable sum of money
from its investments in perpetuity so that funding will exist to invest
annually in Alaska's hockey community regardless of fundraising
efforts.

However, the Foundation's Board of Directors has decided that in
2007-08 funding may be made available for capital investment projects with a
focus on identifying and working with other foundations to leverage our
monies for the good of the community to the maximum extent possible.
Additionally, the Foundation plans on providing some "seed" money to
bring a few new hockey opportunities available to our community's
youth. More on these exciting programs will be announced soon.

Regrettably, the Foundation will not be soliciting applications for
individual hockey scholarship grants at this time. As the Foundation's net
worth grows; individual scholarship opportunities will become available.

Our Story

Eight years ago, my son, Scotty Gomez, was offered his first contract to play NHL hockey. I never knew when he was young, that he would turn his favorite pastime into a career. But I do know, all too well, how expensive the sport can be - kids grow fast and they can go through a lot of equipment. Costs for this sport can spiral out of control quickly. Because of the high expense of hockey, some kids don’t ever get the opportunity to skate, and we’d like to change that.

It is Scotty’s desire, and his family’s, to lend significant financial support to the youth hockey community in Alaska. We’ve created the Scotty Gomez Foundation to raise funds which will be returned to young players in Alaska who need a “scholarship” to be able to afford to keep playing. Who knows where Alaska’s next hockey star will come from? We’re committed to helping make sure that every young player at least gets a chance to pursue the dream that my son is living right now.
